will be holding its:
Annual Fathers Day Celebration Steam Train Rides
Railroad and Museum open.
Ride the Steam Train pulled by a 1912 Heisler Logging Locomotive
(one of only six operating in the United States). Buy your ticket in the Silver Creek Depot, modeled after the Illinois Central Depot in Elroy IL and filled with railroad memorabilia. Ride on an open flat car or in the 1889 Hannibal & St. Joe wooden caboose
which is the oldest operating caboose in the state of Illinois. Also view the 1938 Plymouth Diesel Locomotive, 1945 Brookville Diesel Locomotive, and the 1954 Davenport Diesel Locomotive.
Visit the Silver Creek Museum
accross the road in the old stone 'County Poor Farm' building with over 25 rooms of Early Americana & Local History. Many displays of local businesses including Stover Manufacturing, Arcade Manufacturing, Burgess Battery, Henney, Rawleigh, McNess, etc. Genral Store, One Room School, vintage Kitchen, bathroom with very ornate furnishings and a very unique folding bath tub, Model Railroad room, War Room with pictures maps and uniforms, and many more.
See the 130 Ton Cooper Corliss Steam Engine
with a 25' 4" diameter 60 Ton Flywheel. Largest operating steam engine within a 500 mile radius.
View a collection of Henney
Hearses, Flower Car, and Ambulance, all built in Freeport IL on Packard automobile chassis. Also view a collection of Vintage Fire Trucks.
All Located at 2954 S. Walnut Road at the corner of Lamm & Walnut roads South of Freeport IL, West off of Highway 26.
Train Rides run every hour on the hour
from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Adults $7.00
& children under 12 $3.00
Cab rides on the Locomotive are also available on request and I believe they are $15.00, but ask to be sure.
Museum is open 11:00AM - 4:00PM with a $3.00 admission for Adults
No Charge to view the Cooper Corliss
or the Henney's or to tour the Depot, but donations would be appreciated.
