I beleive Adolphus Busch made some engines in St. Louis, he was the first American to buy a licence to build Rudolf Diesel's engine. He also made some other things in St. Louis. Was it beer? I'm pretty sure they're still making beer, they haven't made engines in many years.

Don't know about any IC engines besides Fulton, but there were quite a few different steam engine builders in St. Louis

I have a 4 HP St. Mary's Diesel that was made at St. Charles, MO. according to a St. Mary's collector out East. Nice running engine, but tough to crank.

I have a 1 3/4 HP Sultan engine made by the Whitman Agricultule Company in
St. Louis. In 15 years of searching I have only found two others in the U.S.A. One in NY and one in the Smithsonian Museum. I have the lowest S/N. The engine was mfg. aproximately 1913. The company mfg. farming equipment and a 3 and 7 HP engine. They sold out approx. 1920. I have a history of the company and also a list compiled by Gary Plfum of the ILL-MO Tractor and Engine Club of all the engines mfg. in the St. Louis and St. Charles area. |

Don't forget the Cresent Marine Engine Co. I have owned 2 of the 6 that I ever heard of. Gardner is another. Rumsey Mfg. of St.Louis offered a gearless 4 cycle engine. American Car Wheel Co. was in St. Louis and offered tandem engines.
