Default Advance Rumely Tandem Compounds

Might anyone have information on the Advance Rumely Tandem Compounds? I see a reference to one that was to be sold on ebay & I just received a nice picture of one in Italy.

Were they all shipped to Argentina? That is where the one in Italy originated.

I'm intrigued by the compound (just because I have a tandem compound Port Huron......) and by the steel stacks that look like they have been extended.

Maybe Davide will post the nice picture he sent me?

Thanks
Beth

Hy Beth,
here you have some photos of the Advance Rumely tandem compound engine in Italy. The engine number is 15336

The smokestak is not the original one. My friend decided to change it. I will post a photo where you can see the original one.

This last photo is an Advance Rumely that I think it is still in Argentina.

Regards,
Davide

Thanks Davide! Great pictures. I'd like to take that engine for a drive to see how that tandem compound handles versus my Port Huron tandem compound!

Was the stack originally cast?

Thanks again!

Beth

I think there's still an unrestored Advance-Rumely compound down in Argentina, unless it has been sold and moved on. If someone wants to buy it and move it, I wish them good luck.....

Davide,

Aside of the fact you were living there, how were you able to get your engines out of Argentina?

Thanks!
Beth

Beth,
I bought my portable engines in 1998/99 while I was living there. When I came back to Italy I put them in a container and send them to Italy. I don't know if now there are some restriction to export steam engine from Argentina.
Most of the steam engines that where in Argentina were english made. I think a lot of them came back to England. I saw three of them for sale in Preston website.
Regards,
Davide

Hi Davide!

Perhaps I have missed it somewhere, but we were debating the size on this ARU....what size is it?

Thanks!
Beth

Hi Beth,
I think this engine is a 25hp. Maybe someone of the advance rumely club knows better the size of this engine.

All the best

It appears that the serial number plate is there. If it is correct this should be pretty easy.

Advance Rumely only made 11 compound engines.

#14675 - 1917 - 20 H.P. - 9x10 / 12x10
#14733 - 1917 - 18 H.P. - 7 1/4x9 / 10 1/4x9
#15189 thru #15197 - 1920 - 25 H.P. - 9x12 / 13x12

Thanks,
Warren Bellinger

Thanks Warren,

According to Davide's post, it is engine number is 15336. I'm sure Davide can confirm the number with a photo.
