From what I understand there are EPA issues on bringing these engines into the U.S. Can anyone comment ?

Check with George from Utterpower, I think he orders a load every once and a while. Also check craigslist Hartford CT, there are a couple guys listing them often as alternative fuel engines.I also found a couple recently on craiglook.com, its a website that can search every craigslist in the country.
I got 2 Metro premium 6/1s with ring gear electric start from an Amish gentleman in Lancaster PA and he said they were the last ones for a while. The EPA has stopped Dealer importing but I think you can order from India in small quantity without a problem from companies such as Annand power.Parts are generally available from several US suppliers
like Central Maine Diesel.
Good Luck, keep us posted

What about Central Maine Diesel? they advertise Lister type diesels on their site generatorsales.com anyone know anything about them? I'm seriously thinking of buying one of their 6,600 watt 12/1 Lister's. The only other thing I'm looking at is an DM90 from http://www.energymachines.ca/engines1.htm but feel at 4kw it may be a bit under powered for my off grid needs. Then again, it's cost is almost half that of the Lister. Either of these units will be a major investment for me, so I want to make the right choice. Any thoughts will be helpful and appreciated.

Central Maine does not have any engines and neither do any of the other dealers in the USA no matter what the web sites say. Engines are available in Canada but they will not ship them here. You have to go up there yourself and take your chances at the border, hear say is they are coming across with no problems. New or next to new Listeroids are on Ebay and Craigs list about every other week, prices are going up.

As soon as all of the photos are taken there will be a fair amount of real Listers coming to America. These will not fall under the same EPA rules. If intrested email me at mlisenby.ditchdr@cox.net I can send some pre-lim pictures and information on how to own one. LIZ

Talking Re: Listeroid Indian Lister Clones

There is an ISSUE with importation.... Most of the ones here come from Canada these days, via Personal Import....

Check out the listerengine.com there is a guy putting together a shipment of originals from Great Britian. I've been looking into making a backup generator for myself. 4KW doesn't sound like much, but when you start calculating your loads, you may find that it is sufficient. The book that George sells on utterpower is worth the investment if you are considering doing this. And I'm more convinced the battery and inverter plan that energymachines suggests is the way to go.
