Smoking running rich ? Carb won't adjust ? Carb leaking fuel running over ? Check the float for leaks or replace it new. Cleaned the carburetor out ? Fresh gas ? Clean tank ?
Timing correct and timing order correct ? Getting enough air or is air cleaner all plugged up ? Try with air cleaner disconnected. |

Check the firing order and the way the magneto rotates.
I believe it rotates clockwise as you are viewing it from the cap. bills welder repair in Oklahoma has a lot of good links for troubleshooting and timing that engine. www.billswelderrepair.com http://www.billswelderrepair.com/files/IM277.pdf |

Firing order posted in diagram above. NOTE the Bosch & FM mag #1 position is different and should see a 1 on cap of those & Wico. Get two wires crossed or firing order off it's not going to run right.

I fixed mine. Make sure mag is sparking good. The Marvel Schebeler carb has a small vertical passage in bowl casting which must be open to gasoline in the bowl. Blow in it and the gasoline should bubble. If not, clean out with small drill. I had to get a lot of rust out and then even drill through the brass tube to open the passage. That fixed the idle problem. Idle mixture clockwise increases richness. Read the manual posted on another post in this thread.

you probably have 2 plug wires switched. trace them out again and it should be fine
