continental Red Seal Y 69

Need help with more information on this engine. It is bolted to a Generator although do not know who made the generator. There is no oil pan the block is flat on the bottom with two large plates on each side that say Red Seal and Continental. Model is Y69 478 on the tag and the block says A23x Y69A 400U.

Wanted to add a photo but could not figure out how as it is on my computer and not stored anywhere else.

If the pictures are on your computer put it on the screen. You should have a button to edit picture. Go there and click resize. you want to resize it where the largesize is smaller than 1500. then save it. note your file name.Now when you ost go to the bottem of the page to add picture. click on mannage attachment then add up to 4 pictures. Is this what your generator looks like? This one has been on display at Tuckahoe MD for many years. Unfortunately, i don't have any details on the engine.

Your engine is one of Cont'ls little Ag/Comm'l/Indt'l "Y series"(models in 69, 91 and 112 cid).
Cont'l usage of the time was separate designations per use: Y-4069 "automotive", Y69 ag/comm'l/ind'l, and PY69 (and other P- prefixes) for free standing power units; "automotive" usually had a timing chain, while the others had timing gears, altho one showed up in AU with the automotive desig but timing gears.
My stuff is weak on gensets, welders and such, but the Y4069 shows in some smaller IH combines.
Oddly, a 38 Victor catalog lists Y4069 and PY69, but not the Y69; later catalogs list all three taking some, at least, of the same parts.
