Power is out, Onan MDJE wouldn't restart
Posting from my phone, please forgive shortness. Standby 7.5mdje magnecitor ran for 10 hours. Stopped it to check oil. Restarted it 4 hours later. Cranked for 30 seconds but didn't try to fire. Shutdown relay didn't move. Second try no crank (it glowed, so batteries not flat). Removed housing and control box cover to find coil on side of emergency relay glowing. Couldn't get it to shut off without disconnecting batteries. Did that, let it sit 10 mins still couldn't reset emergency relay plunger, it won't stay in. Holding it in didn't fix the no crank condition either. Bypassed it with clip lead and it started as normal. Oil pressure fine, temp normal, output ac fine, dc around 12.8v and apparently still charging.
Any ideas what caused the coil to energize, then stay on? Is this emergency relay used for overcrank protection? If so it failed long ago. Before I knew better and burned out my starter I easily cranked this over for longer than a minute.
