Default My Huber 16hp steam engine

Hello everyone,
I think I have posted some photos of my Huber in another discussion I opened in the past but here you have a thread for him! It' s a 16hp Huber steam engine, serial number: 8671. The boiler is in very good condition. I just finished replumbing the boiler for the injector and crosshead pump. I still need to do some works on the crosshead pump but injector works great.
Here you have a short video of it running:

Here you have a photo of the flywheel side

And here a photo with the oldest sister, The Tozer portable engine.

All the best

Davide

Davide, in response to your contribution I would like to add a few pictures of our Huber 16 recently imported. With a 1917 Huber light four tractor in the collection, it fits well in line.
My urge for a Huber was born a time long ago when visiting the place for Ryndas engines, and the first, one saw was a Huber, aside of the road. I felt I wanted to adopt it right away.
However I just never thought of being able to buy one. Sure it is spectacular this engine and I hope to be able to steam it some day.
I do not know of any other Huber steamers in Europe except the small portable in GB, which came out of elsewhere in the old empire.

Hi Tore,
thank you for your message! Yes, you are correct! There aren't other Huber engines in Europe. I was told there was one in Portugal but at the end it was only a portable engine made by Marshall Company.
I really like huber tractors. It may takes more time to reach some pounds of pressure in the boiler but later they are very economical and keep pressure better than other makers!
I'm enjoying driving my huber. Hope to have the water tank and bunkers ready in a few days. Than I will have his first road trip trougth my town!!!

Kind regards

Davide

Hi Tore/Davide

Many thanks for posting those pics of your engines - they are interesting additions to the European steam "fauna".

As far as I know there are at least two other Huber traction engines in Europe - one was imported into the UK from the States a few years ago and appeared at the Newby Hall show, while another was in a private museum in Belgium until recently. I'm not sure where either of these are now though, so many someone can help with this?

All the best

David

Looking great Davide. Any man with a Huber and a Keck Gonnerman clearly has excellent taste in steam engines. I like your video. It sounds like your gearing is in nice shape. My gears could use a little work. You are right about the Huber being slow to steam but they are pretty easy to keep hot after you have steam pressure up. BTW I still owe you pictures of my tool box and wood box. I'll get measurements if you need them.

Posts 2 & 3 point out Huber's advantages, but should add the safety factor of absence of crown sheet and stay bolts and also better looks!

Ed, I'd gladly volunteer to let you fire my 22 HP Huber and then let you tell me how easy it makes and keeps up steam....... What do you say, Andy.....know you've been on the coal shovel on Bertha!?

Me, myself and I, I'd rather ANYDAY be on a Gaar-Scott Universal Boiler with a good, deep firebox that'll make ALL the steam you'd EVER want......Gaar built Return Flue engines until 1905....but none thereafter!

Don't get me wrong, not knocking a Huber, since I've got two.....but I much prefer a locomotive style to fire.

Mike

I'll be glad to do that, Mike. It may be the first traction I've ever run. I've only run stationary steam so far.
Thank you

Hi Davide

There are some photos of the Huber at the Newby Hall show here - it is #10865:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/imageta...detail/?page=7

I've also attached a photo of the one in Belgium displayed at the Oostrozebeke show - I'm not sure where I got this photo from, but it may have been German George (if so, I hope he doesn't mind me posting it here ) I think the tractor belonged to a collector of hotbulb tractors at the time, but he has since sold it.

All the best

David

There are easier engines to fire. I think that your will find Bertha to be more friendly after some fine tuning. We got closer last fall but she needs a little more adjustment.
