Default 6.5 NH-3CR/l6OOOJ CR1 Cross Reference

I needed CR1, 305-0235, for one of my 6.5 gensets. In my research I learned that 305-0235 was replaced by 305-0673.

Bruce, BTPOST, put in a thread several years ago that most any 100 volt 10 amp diode would work. I was not sure about the forward voltage rating, so I sucked it up and bought it from Onan. It was drop shipped from Cummins in Memphis. I figured for NW Florida I would get it in a couple of days. They shipped it FEDEX overnight to the tune of $11.00+. Neither I nor the place I ordered it from realized they were going to overnight it. That was one pricey rectifier. Oh well.

The part number on the case was R20410. That is a 100 PRV 12 amp REVERSE polarity silicon power rectifier manufactured by Microsemi. There is an Onan installation sheet enclosed that says the polarity is reversed and it will need to be wired differently.

I went to the Microsemi web site and down loaded the data sheet and for a 100 PRV 12 amp NORMAL polarity rectifier it lists part numbers 1N1200, 1N1200A, & 1N1200B. I tried to upload a scanned copy but the file size is too big. The sheet lists part numbers for rectifiers with a PRV up to 1200V.

The link to the data sheet is:

http://www2.microsemi.com/datasheets/coe-3.pdf

A quick search on Digi-key for 1N1200 comes up with three rectifiers. Digi-key part number 1N1200A-ND is $4.65 and they have 43 in stock.

One would need to check the rectifier with an ohm meter and make sure you wire it so the current flows to the battery.

Hopefully, this information will save others some money. I suspect that this recifier could be used in place of a lot of other Onan part numbers. As I understand it, this rectifier is used in the battery charge circuit. Bruce could better answer that question. He has a wealth of knowledge and has helped me several times. Most recently getting a MEP-003A started after it sat for three years.

One other thing Bruce commented about in that post is replacing the fuses with circuit breakers. I have found 5 amp replacements at Newark for $2.21, part number 75F010. I am going to check Digi-key to do a price comparison.

For other people reading this.
Diodes are a standard industrial item, I would go with standard industrial suppliers. A list is at bottom.

In general diodes are spec'd by amps and PIV (peak inverse voltage) ratings. Going higher on both for a replacement is fine. And actually gives you higher reliability as the % electrical stress on it is lower. 400 and 600 volt PIV are commonly available.

I listed a bunch of suppliers on post # 22-23 of ---> http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showth...t=99938&page=2

(the 400 and 600 volt versions , usually cost very little extra.)

(I'm sure the supplier in above post is fine, just wanted to give people options. )

Len is correct on the suppliers I order my terminal ends from Newark. With any of these suppliers look at the different brands and prices. Newark groups items by manufacturer and I find it easier to find the best price. I need female quick disconnects and think for 18-22 gauge wire a box of 100 is less than $4.00. I think the brand is Voltrec (sp).

If you work for someone who has an account with a supplier ask your purchasing folks for the name of the sales rep they deal with. Most are happy to take your personal order and give you the same discount the your company gets.

In some cases I find it easier to search a catalog rather than on a web site. Almost all of the suppliers will send you a free catalog. I have Allied and Newark catalogs. They are a year or two old but I can check current prices on line.
