Default Flywheel-side pulley on Briggs 8R6 (Attn Tom Schaech)

I have an old PGT walk-behind sickle that I've been trying to restore. It originally came with a Briggs 8R6. It has the gear reduction, as well as a v-belt pulley on the flywheel side. Is this pulley something specific to the 8R6, or can I put it on any engine? Tom, I saw an old post of yours about an 8R6, so I thought you might have some ideas. I have a newer briggs with the gear reduction but no flywheel-side pulley, and I was wondering if I could put a pulley on that somehow.

Hi...

The pulley you refer to was supplied by the equipment manufacturer, not the engine. I imagine you could rig up something to allow a flywheel side pulley, however 99% of today's engines are equipped with a recoil start as opposed to the orginial equipment which most likely had a manual rope start.

When there's a will, there's a way. Sit back and put your thinking cap on...a modification may be made and it might just work out pretty neatly! Good luck...fell free to holler if advice is needed. Happy holidays!
