How long did you hold the start switch after the unit fired up? Have you started the unit at half throttle previoudly or at idle?

first and for most never start any mep series gen set at idle or run at idle or anything other than 60 hertz that said. start the gen set and hold the start switch in the start position for no more that 10 seconds this should energize the gen head and you should get power if not you need to read the tms and do some trouble shooting if energizing it doesnt work and you have idled the engine for more than a couple of seconds you most likly have a bad transistor in the vr the tms will give you test prosedures for testing the vr hope this helps

Holding it in start not only starts it but flashes the field. If you hold it for more than 10-15 sec. you can burn up the excitation circut. About how long did you crank? Oh and Steelsoldiers has all of the manuals. Good luck.

I count to 10 as i'm cranking then release, if its cold sometimes it takes 3 attempts to stay running.

I can e mail you the complete set of manuals, you can apply 12 volts to the exciter field to see if it is the VR or the Diodes in the field. I can send that specific page, if you like.
I have found the best thing to do if it is the regulator to modify and update the unit to a new Flight Systems regulator, that has underspeed protection, and can be rebuilt .
The military Vr are aging and the parts are getting weak from old age
