Default What is a very old Buck/Dump rake worth

I am trying to sell a very old dump or buck rake, not sure what the real correct name is, not sure how exactly old it is, but it was originally horsedrawn, it has been modified to be able to pull it behind a tractor, but I believe that it can be removed, it is in decent condition. I have seen a very big price range on these things, just getting ideas of what to ask for it. I cant find any identifying manufacture or brand information.

I bought one on a sale about 5 years ago for $15.00 in excellent working order. It had been in a shed for many years & I just oiled & greased it as needed & used it. I use it with the tractor to pull the vines & weeds off my large garden/pumpkin patch.I know that was on the cheap side, but I have never seen one bring over $25-30.

Yah, in MT, they're going from about $50-100 for one that rolls. There's plenty of them out there that ask alot more...but the ones that sell are in that range.

Thre is a guy down the road from me that heard I was watching for a cheap & operable one about 6-7 years ago & contacted me. He said he has one that he was asking $125.00 for,but would let go of it for $100.00. {It is just serviceable, nothing special} He still had it the last I knew & it was still "For Sale".

If the missing seat was cast iron the best part is already gone! At a swap meet the wheels should be worth $25 or more each for decorations and the teeth a few dollars each for making flower pot hangers or whatever they do with them.

Just seen one with original paint, oak tounge and tools on it here in MI that went for $125.00. I wanted it but missed the sale. Probably without a tounge or seat about $50-$75.

Wow, thats a disappointment I wanted to put $500 on it, I've been looking other places and found a lot of sites selling them from $200-$400, they may be in better condition or something, for example this site: http://www.fastline.com/v100/1900-An...ca828fdf3.aspx, and this site: http://for-sale.yakaz.com/dump-rake-for-sale , I don't have the seat or tongue, but it stinks it depreciates that much just from that. Thanks.

Well........You could be like the fellow down the road from me that I mentioned earlier. A person can ASK anything they want to,but if REALLY wanting to sell it you have to be some what realistic. In my world, it would not bring over $50 tops.

Asking -- and getting -- are two very different things. What similar items SELL for, is far more instructive than what folks ASK for similar items.

You can ASK whatever you like. What a willing buyer with cash in hand is willing to pay, may be quite a distance from there.

I do real estate inspections and am always amazed at the price that realtors will tell a seller their property is worth.

Yes there is always a chance that someone will give you an offer of $650k for your house,,, But reality is it's probably more in the range of a $350 k house and if you really want to sell it , price it accordingly.

Question Re: What is a very old Buck/Dump rake worth

I am new and don't know really how to start my own question, lol...so, I will ask here as a reply. I have an old hay rake, like the one listed in very good condition...the only identifying marks are on the wheel hubs and it looks like.. HC 12 X or possibly HC I2 X?? Does anyone have any info regarding this mark? I will try to post some pics either later today or tomorrow...must charge my camera. Thanks for any and all good assistance with this matter. Coy:

I have been giving $75-100 for a good one. If I see a junker bidding cost really doesn't matter. If I ever found a one horse one I would give more.

Things are so different in the States. Here in Canada, if I find one that's complete, I can get between $250 and $400 for one... and they sell quick. The ones that are similar to yours, I usually sell the wheels for $125 and the seat for $50 (if you had it), the rest is worth about $50 for scrap iron, so around here, any less than $200 then you're gving it away. You guys are so lucky... I see classified adds on this site that make me want to do continuous road trips to the states to jump at all the bargains. I wish trucking was cheap

I actually bought one for a lawn ornament a few years ago. Paid $100.00. But that's what it's like up here in Canada. I guess the price is directly propotional to how bad you want something.
I bet you wished you'd met me a couple of years ago, Huh?
Cheers and good luck
