I just picked up a 1950's?? Dunlap (Sears) 16" rotary mower with a Power Products 2 cycle engine on it that was at someones curb. After making a new lower section for the handle out of a piece of 1/2" conduit(had to buy a 10' length from Sears hardware for just 3' but it only cost $1.29) I cleaned out the fuel tank with acetone and cleaned the carb also. The damned thing runs great! Only thing im wondering is there is no throttle linkage and no place for it. Any ideas? Im not used to these "modern" mowers, just reels from the 1920's LOL. Its a Model V47 Type W502 with the exposed flywheel. Thanks. John.

Not much experience with Power Products but I have a small Jacobsen 2-stroke trimmer mower from about the same era. The "throttle" is a little lever on the side of the carb. It has 3 settings: choke, full throttle, stop.

Hi John, I have every reason to believe it is not supposed to have a throttle as many of the little two strokers were set to run at one speed. The only change that could be made in RPM was to adjust the fuel/air mixture or else a piece of bailing wire. I know a fella that collects lawn mowers with the two stroke PP engines on them and he is quite the expert. Probably about anything you'd want to know on the engine, he could provide an answer. If you want his email address, contact me.

John; Your Power Products engine has no ajustable speed control. These engines used a single speed centrifgual governor to control engine speed. The older engines had the governor located inside a small housing on the P.T.O. end of the crankshaft. Newer engines the governor was under the flywheel.

John, I am familiar with some of these engines, and there is a 3/16th or so shaft or wire coming out of the base of the engine, bent up, and is 1 to 1-1/2 inches long, and has a hole in the side at the top that has the linkage to the carb attached to it. It is a mechanical governer, one speed. Bob in Tucson

PP engines made by Tecumseh for many years.
Look for Model AV-47 Intertec service manuals covered all those models with good diagrams Or look for a 1960s era Tecumseh service manual |
