My project needs the points plunger boot/seal. My parts book does not show it. My unit is a 5cck-3r/13j . Thanks.....

Onan removed the seal. After it was found out. That it would turn in to a pump and pump oil into the point box. I have removed many of them.

Billy, I presume your comment applies only to the CCK design. I would not remove either plunger seal from the JB design. The contacts are too close and you can imagine what oil vapors would do to electrical contacts.

The only problem that I know of. Was with the CCK type plunger seal. Never heard on any problems with the j unit.

there was a revision to the onan way back in 74 that eliminated the plunger seal on verticle mounted points like the ones you have because it acted like a pump and brought oil into the point box,so they are not needed, further info contact me at georgenfw@hotmail.com

maybe not yours but alot of old units i see have alot of blowby, which naturally blows oil out, what i like about onan filler tubes is they except the breather caps that twist on valve covers of old chevys, just a tip for units that are blowing by & still running well, as most onans can pull a full load worn out sometime you dont wanna take them apart, crankcase pressure is not good

I am aware of blow by. I am in the midst of getting the bugs worked out and saw my plunger boot all dry rotted. Thanks for the help.
