Anyone notice how patheticly slow ebay has been the past few days? Im on a dial up 56k modem but never have seen ebay pages load and scroll this bad. I even noticed when typing my indicator types faster than it prints out in the search box. Might be the new worm out there? John.

Yes...I agree. I actually started a thread afew weeeks ago stating the same thing but nobody else seemed to notice or have the same problems. It's gotten so slow I don't hardly even bother with it anymore.

I buy and sell daily on ebay. I have a cable internet connection and I don't have any problems with ebay speed.

I use AOL, so it would be hard for me to notice any slow downs on E-bay. AOL almost always connects at such a low rate E-bay would just about have to be stopped before I'd notice. I honestly believe they degrade the performance of their dial up service to force you to buy their high speed stuff.

I was forced to subscribe to the DSL service due to large files that I receive. Now, it seems as slow as the dial up was. Ebay has been very slow the last few days for me.

I work for a cable tv co and get my internet service free (the fastest speed offered) I've noticed wierd things happening when i go to eBay. first thing was when i got to ebay it would cause an illegal action and i would get booted off the internet. now when i go there it's so slow i cannot see pictures sometimes. also i have trouble getting on smokestak, i've got it in my favorites and when i click on it, like last nite, it said it wasn't available. our internet experts at work say the virus is at epidemic porportions! i hope that when they find the person responsible, they lock him/her/them up for 20 yrs. mininum instead of rewarding them with a slap on the hand and a high paying job in a large computer corporation---------regardless of their age!

Seems to me that a lot of sites are slow There are times when I get the page not available thing, hit the refresh button and I'm where I want to be. I think my modem may also have something to do with it. Had to replace it a while back and this one sends and receives at anywhere from 28800 bps to 50800 bps, but mostly stays in the 28800 range My old one would be a constant 52000 bps Need to find another one like that

PS It was even slow when trying to preview this message.

I ping yahoo, got there and back in 66 miliseconds (best) worst is 98 miliseconds. Did two tests on bandwidthplace and got 1.2 megabits per second on the communications test.

Hi John, is your typing faster than what is posted on the screen? Mine also does that and not only on ebay but as I am typing this too. My curser seems to be searching for something about every 15 seconds and keeps turning into an hour glass, but I can seem to find what it's searching for. I've scanned for viruses, but havnt found any, but maybe it is looking for that worm or something. Any way good luck, and I also have a cable modem and things seem slower also.

Walt, I have a similar problem. I am on DSL Earthlink. Lately, when I select E-bay from my bookmarks using Netscape, it shuts down netscape. If I select E-bay from Harry's page, it works OK. If I use Explorer, it works OK.

Mike, I had trouble getting on here (smokestak) all afternoon and just now got on 10;50 my time. I'd given up and was just about to go to Harrys to see if there was something i could connect to there. I think the built in firewall in windows xp is causing part of this...........Walt

(I use the XP firewall myself with no problems with it. -- Harry)

Gents,

you might recall a short while ago a worm called Blaster worm or the LovSan worm?

It seems this worm is at the base of the problem forcing computers and servers to slow or drop out and flood ping the microsoft site which in turn creates like a big traffic jam on the net.

If you havent already download the worm patch of the mircosoft web site please do so.

Computers running windows 95 and 98 are the only versions not suffering directly all other versions including XP are suffering due to a programing over sight by MircoSoft (and now being exploited by the worm) and since Windows being mass marketed to the entire world you can imagine the number of computers that could be involved in the jam.

As a point 90% of worms and virus's are created by acutal programmers in frustration of those who pirate (copy) their software,

Hope this helps,

Adam
