We had to tear the building down to remove the engine.
This thread is continued from thread "Fairbanks Morse engine". heins This engine powered an irrigation well in Nebraska with a flat belt. We are getting it ready to move. The piston is standing by the barrel in the picture. I still haven't found the ser # of the engine stamped on it. |

The serial # should be on top of base on a flat.

Tom, the engine is sitting with the crankshaft east and west, the flywheel is to the west. On the southeast corner someone has bolted a flat piece of metal for a step. You can see it in one of the pictures I posted earlier. Could the ser# be under that step?

This is the original belt pulley that was mounted on the flywheel shaft that powered the well. It is made out of wood except for the bolts and four castings the bolts go through to clamp onto the shaft. It is 42" in dia and 11" wide.

I didn't get the pump but I did get the pulley the engine drove. It is in the picture if you look close you can see it in front of the electric motor that is on the well now. The engine pulley is vertical and the pump pulley is horizonal.

I found a number on the flywheel 610031. Could that be the ser#? If it is the engine ser#, what would the year be?

That would be the serial number on the flywheel and also would be a 1925 with that number. I am guessing this would be a 32A with that early of a serial number.

Aloha,
I believe that the 32A designation is a renamed Type Y Style VA, and that the Y VA was not on the market long before the renaming. Chuck |

Aloha Frank,
I'm out here, new thread as soon as I reduce some picture to fit. If you don't have a manual, I think this one is about right: http://www.oldtacomamarine.com/fairb...uctions_lg.pdf Chuck |

That is such a nice engine with that HEAVY flywheel!
I'd love to see a video of it running nice and SLOW when you finish it. You're in Colorado? I just might even take a drive your way to see it run in person some time. |

Dirtbikepilot, it will be a while if I get the engine running but if you are out this way, stop in and look at the engine.
Scott H, I found the ser# on the engine. It is on the flat on the rear right corner where you said it is. It is easy to find something if you know where to look. The ser# on the engine is the same as the flywheel. I was able to move the flywheel about 4" with my 55 ton porta power. It didn't even "grunt" so I will be able to take the flywheel off when we load the engine. |

We went to Nebraska and got the engine. It is missing some parts, if any of you know where I can find part for this engine, let me know.
Ive {I V} Nebraska is where Ive spent her working life In an iron clad building she pumped water with no strife. When she would start up, neighbors would rally For when she was running, you could hear her up and down the valley. She is a proud engine and not a weasel. She was pumping water for thirsty crops before "Cat" had a diesel. To see her scrapped and sent to China, a fate that would be so final. For she is made of iron and steel, and not of flimsy vinyl. We couldn't let her return as a roller skate And you won't see her on the shelves of Harbor Freight. She was silenced when they put an electric motor on the well. She did her work and we won't dwell. She has done her work and now retired, And now it is time for her to be admired. |

heins--I enjoyed your poem. That homebuilt lift is neat too. Thanks for saving that cast iron monument.

JR Smith the flywheel key has the ser# on it. It has the engine ser# on the engine base, flywheel, and flywheel key. They are all the same #.
We took the flywheel to the museum so people could see it. It will be a while before I am ready for it. |
