Default Scale Model John Deere E Gas Engine

Now that the Hired Man is almost finished i am now thinking ahead to the next engine i will be starting shortly which is a 1/2 scale John Deere Model E, This is a very comprehensive kit from Leroy Hoover, which includes many many castings in cast iron, and a nice trolley set up. The casting look of very high quality with no surface defects and the drawings are clear and precise.
Are there any problems i should be looking our for during machining.????

Regards Roger

I bought a kit from Leroy, but did not get any setup instructions on how to time and run the engine, how much oil to put in etc,

Does anyone have a copy they could scan and send me please?

Just got my John Deere running, fill the oil until the oil runs out of the filler hole and the level will be about right, when running i found the oil splashed over the piston and the engine omitted a lot of smoke, after advice and help from others that use Smokstak i made and fitted an internal splash guard which cured the problem. Set the trigger to fire the engine about 10 Deg BTDC. The engine seems to flood if you are not careful, turn the needle valve only about half a turn, block the choke hole with you finger and turn the engine over by hand to draw fuel to the carb, half close the choke and the engine will fire on the flick of the flywheels if not then make small adjustments to the carb settings Regards Roger

Thanks Roger,

Good to hear your experience. Is there anything special to do in the gear case? Where the governors and levers work? Do the timing dots go on the inside of the crank case?
