Hi, I am the current high bidder on a lether bound AGE book by Wendel. I am a very sick person and have bid a very stupid doller amount for a book. "I do however really want one and have for some time, This is the 1st one that I have seen come up for sale" Here is the problem. I have had some people email me and say somthing is wrong with this book. I am told that there was a run of (300) and they were all signed and numbered. This one is advertised as one of (100) there is no signutare and not numbered. Does anyone out here know if there were 2 runs made 1 of 300 and 1 of 100? Thanks for any help you can offer. Mike

There is another one on ebay. One of 300 signed. You can retract your bid and go for the other. Bid retraction is legit and preferable to problems after the auction.
See Harry's auction posts for the link and also see the seller commented on the one/100 book you bid on. Value is based on supply vs demand. I would think a numbered and signed copy would be worth more than an extra run of 100. Both look nice, but for the money involved I'd go for a numbered book. |

I was not aware of a non numbered leather version. It could be possible that there was a printing overrun of the leather bound editions that didn't get the tag put in them as they might have been extras. Here is another guess...Since the ebay listing says that it came from the author's shelf, Was it part of his gift stash that he could do with as he saw fit. I doubt that the author would get 100 of them in the leather bound, but I don't know what the publishing company was doing years back. I don't think there is any way to prove that there are only 100 of them out there...I can add one more by removing the tag in my book and you wouldn't know. Personally, I just got a leather bound version with the certificate/tag/signature in the front. I have seen several in the past 2 years and none of them were priced that high. I carry my red book in my truck, the yellow book upstairs and the leather book in my room by the computer...It gets used the most..aside from show use of the red one... What the book is worth to you is just that. |

Why not see if Richard Backus knows anything about it, or Wendel himself. Just like with the old engines, just cuz you ain't seen it don't mean they didn't do it! My yellow book is held together with duct tape and packaging tape, lots of miles on it but it is still holding up. I had bought a copy of the red one just to have a backup but then I sold it to a guy out east who wanted one and didn't have one. Could have made a profit, but instead I sold it to him for my cost and made a buddy. I always thought it would be neat to have one on CD-ROM, but I doubt they will ever offer it that way and since it is copyrighted, I won't do it myself. Theft of intellectual property is becoming a big problem with all the easy ways to copy things and distribute them nowadays.

Outgoing from a signed Yellow book, I guess the worth of a Leather Bound numbered book would be $500.00 today.
