Default Silsby steam fire engine demonstration

This is the Friendship NY Steamer Company's 1881(?) Silsby steam fire engine getting up steam and then pumping as part of the Mumford, NY Fire Department's 125th anniversary celebration:

More photos of the engine in the parade and pumping are here:

A real crowd pleaser - especially on a hot July afternoon!

Bob,

Thanks for posting the excellent photos. I have this Silsby down as #657, a 5th size engine built in 1881.

All the best

That's the one David!

Here's a brief video I took while it was pumping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ_6j...ature=youtu.be

How neat! Our town thinks it has the oldest fire
engine, they need to look at that one. Our town's
oldest fire engine is kinda new compaired to that.
The one here is an old model T type fire engine.
The one in the video is the neatest and the cutest.
I like that!

Great pictures and video.

I've seen a few old steam powered fire engines, but never seen one used before.

Beautiful! But a steam engine should never be that clean and shinny! Makes me feel guilty LOL!

I don't know if this one is a few years older or newer, but it has the wood spoke wheels with all the fancy gold leaf designs on the spokes.

I thought I had a couple pictures of it hitched up to a team of horses, but all I could find were a bunch of them with the crew cleaning & polishing it. It's at Mount Pleasant Iowa, or at least it was in 2007 anyway.

Just a Beautiful piece of equipment.

Hi OTTO,

I have that one down as #758, a 3rd size engine built in 1883 and owned by Chariton Fire Dept, IA, who have had it from new.

All the best

David
