I don't believe I'd pay that price. I'd get the correct onan part number and shop around. Parts for techs, onanparts.com, and others. Get a parts manual for your generator. Post complete model and serial numbers along with a good email or send private message to someone here who offers the manuals you need. My cck unit uses point set # 160-0002 I bought them from a local onan shop. Cost me 14.00 , the condensor was 16 I'd double check for the correct points condensor buy two sets so you have a spare of new ones. Luck, ben

$77.00? Dealer? I'd call him a stealer.

You got ripped off.

You can get the points at NAPA for a whole lot less.

What model/spec/serial number and one of us will come up with the NAPA number.

I'd take them back, demand my money back and take that opportunity to tell them what I think about their business practices.

Ok you guys got me worried. Guess I should invest in spare points and condenser.
Is there a NAPA number for this old timer?

If you have a number for the points and condensor do a online search for a NAPA cross, or go in and tell them the numbers and run them under the small engine search on there Data base. Luck.

well the parts are still produced and here is what you can do to help yourself send me an email with your model and spec number and I will provide you with the service and parts manuals if that is what you request, parts are best obtained thru the cummins distributor or if you have one your local napa dealer, using a onan dealer is not a wise choice anymore as parts prices will sometimes exceed the actual list price so shop carefully, some comply some do not.georgenfw@hotmail.com

Considering the prices that Onan is attempting to hijack, I'd say yes, a very good idea.

Way better to go looking now than in the middle of the night when lights are off.

An old NAPA that still has the big rack of catalogs, look under D W Onan. Also, not sure of your machine but suspect it may be equipped with a magneto, then go for the magneto manufacturer.

A few years back I was looking for a set of points for a Onan JC 12.5
so I went to NAPA. The only listing I came up with is Listed under
D.W. Onan. So I photo copied it.

Their's a few screw up in the listing tho. Napa lists a DJC and MDJC with points cap and rotor plus coil. Sorry I haven't seen a diesel with points yet. But the listing works for the JC model.and a few older models.

I tried to post the page in PDF format here. But the file was to big
(over the limit). I can't edit a pdf file. I can E-mail it to someone here if they
can edit it. It's only 1 page long and the D.W. information on the
top 1/3 of the page. I think it would make good starting point for someone looking for Onan points,Cond,Cap,Rotor and coils.

Hate to tell you this. But there are 15 sets of those points on Ebay at this time for 55.00. You got ripped off bad. That dealer would not see anymore of my money.

To set them. Turn the engine by hand until the point rod is all the way up. Then set the gap.

Just home from the parts store and Barber shop.

Got a set of points, condensor and (2) sparkplugs for my CCKB in my Allis 616 tractor.

Stopped at the Barbershop and got a haircut on the way home. Spent the sum of $34.76 and included a $1.00 tip for the barber.

Points are an after market brand "Prime Line" replace Onan part #160-0002. Plugs are Champion 578 HC. Young man behind the counter needed a little help but when he got in the right book, we were good.

The haircut was $12.00.

If I get this right, this is the file Vdrive talked about in post 11.
All credit for this posting goes to Vdrive - All I did was to convert it.

It works. Good info for those of us with OLD stuff. - click on download. Adobe format file will be up for 7 days, then Adobe takes it down..

Thanks to vdrive for sending me the pdf file. I compressed it a bit and I will attach it here so others can use it. It should be available here for a while.

Perhaps install some kind of electronic ignition to save those points.
It would pay for itself on less than one points change.

I like my original, non-solid-state point ignition.

Kevin, I don't know where you got that .PDF Information... HOWEVER who ever put it together doesn't know SQUAT, about Onan Engines....
They list the DJC and MDJC Engines as using the listed Ignition Parts... that is totally BOGUS Information, as those are diesel fueled Engines, and REQUIRE NO Ignition Parts at all...... I mean REALLY......

BTPost

Why didn't you read all the above posting (#11) befor you fly off the handle.
I thought it would be a good starting point for replacement points for older generators,
Using Napa part numbers. When I found the list at Napa I figured it was a misprint.
More then likely should of been JB`instead of DJC and M*JC instead of MDJC.
Sorry, For trying to help.
