Default New guy from central Indiana

Hello evryone,
I have been a member for awhile but never posted until today.
I have been around the antique tractor hobby for a few years now.SHowed my Farmall H until i got laid off and had to sell it and some equipment back in 08'
I still have an IH 574 thats been sitting since 05' that i hope to restore in a another year or so.
Been wanting to pick me up an hit and miss engine for many years and thought i should start asking about them so I could learn the tricks of the trade.
I figure it woud be fun to restore one with my son who will be 13 this decmber.

Hi welcome to the stak. You are in a good area for engines. Just 2 weeks ago I was in portland IN. At the biggest old iron show I have ever been to. There were rows and rows of engines and all kinds of parts.Seemed to me that some of the vendors had some fair prices. Look around some and decide what you want and what you want to pay for it. Hiya fellow Hoosier! My wife and I live up in Kokomo. You will have a good chance to get a hit/miss engine coming up in October, plus lots of other goodies at the fall Portland swap meet. I will be there on Friday with my buddy, one of us on a sulkey pulled by either my Allis B1d or his JD112 narrow front. Depends if I get my engine swap operational by show time. I grew up around IH equipment and ran Cub Cadets for many years till certain parts went NLA making it hard to run a tiller on the rear of all but the largest machines, ones to large for us. My little Allis is perfect size and easy/cheap to get parts for. Mike and Michele T
