Default Fairbanks Morse 32E 80hp Single Cylinder

I am working on restoring a model 32E single cylinder 80 HP FM engine for our club. I am very close to getting it running except for I am missing one part. In my original book, It shows the part being the air start distributor FM part number 4596. It uses 4 bolts and mounts on the side of the cylinder head. I am also missing the top water outlet pipe that mounts on the top of the head and goes down to the air start distributor. Any help in locating these parts would be greatly appreciated!

I will show some pictures shortly.

James

No offense, but the most horsepower a 32E puts out per cylinder is 75.

The person prior to me told me that it had a big bore kit put into it but I'm not sure if it's true or not.

But yes I agree with you on the 75 hp.

Build your own! Not hard to do on a single. I built the one on Big George, 120 hp YVA. The old one was in bad shape. It had Hard water in it. I will see if I can post a picture, later J.R.

Sounds great JR! I was thinking about building one but I wasn't sure if there is supposed to be some kind of check valve in it. This is my first fairbanks engine build.

It might be a piece of what works with the exhaust system.
I could be wrong. Someone else might have a better
answer.

Am I so wrong! The missing part is the fire tube that
works like a spark plug. I had to watch a video on
an engine just like it. It goes to show I'm still learning.

Actually this part is called an air start distributor. It is a small manifold that allows air to enter into the cylinder for air starting.

Ahhhh ok. Is it the piece between the 2 larger bolts on the head? And Does air run into both of the ports?

I can only get 1 picture to upload. The Top hole is cooling water. The bottom hole is for the Air Start. The Air Distributor body is on the back side of the Fuel Reservoir and Fuel Injection pump housing. J.R.

James, JR Smith sent me these pics to upload. His computer is not playing nice. His home made manifold works very well. I will be at his place in a few weeks and can take more pics if you need them.

Thumbs up Re: Fairbanks Morse 32E 80hp Single Cylinder

James, the 1st picture is the AIR Distributor Body, part# YKA4596A. It was used on Many Models FM Engines in 1 and 2 cylinder engines both 12 & 14's. It bolts on the back of Injection Pump, Fuel Reservoir & Governor Housing. Not the Head. The Air Starting Pipe starts at the Air Distributor and goes up to the head to the Water Manifold and into the head. Parts are hard to find. Hard Water got most of them. The rest went to China. Good Luck in your Quest. Build your own, get the engine running and keep looking for the parts that you need. I gave up on finding the parts. My 120 hp runs great like it is. Hope this helps a little. J.R.

I would like to thank you guys so very much for your help and expertise! This is going to make this engine run! I am going to go ahead and make up that piece. Then all I need to do is run the fuel line, check out the governor, and see what happens! I will definitely stay in touch and I will be sure to post a quick video when I get her up and running!

I think this is the manifold that bolts to the head on my 40 horse. With JR's help, maybe I will figure out where all the pieces go. I need to get to work on "Ive".
