Default New member from Northern Wisconsin

Hi,

I am new to this site and collecting engines. So far I have a VE4 Wisconsin, Fairbanks Morse Z D, and a Fairbanks Morse Dishpan.

A little background on myself. I am 30, have worked in manufacturing and as a CMO for a local tourist railroad. After several years at the railroad, I got tired of the owners attitude and quit. Mostly, he did not want to fix anything that was a safety issue, and when I went ahead and did them, I got screamed at.

On May 1 2012, I started my own machine shop. I had been collecting machine tools for about 6 years. I now have one of the largest capacity shops within a 50 mile radius. I am soon to release a product line to the dairy industry, product is in final testing this week.

Anyway, I look forward to getting more involved in the hobby. I have a dream of owning my own steam traction engine within a few years. I plan on putting together a small tractor show this coming summer.

I hope I can learn a lot more from this forum, and hopefully contribute some of my knowledge.

Thank you,
Josh

Welcome Josh!.......

Is your shop primarily a walk-in trade shop or do you do contract work?
Walk in trade is nice because you get to visit with and meet lots of people but can be pretty stressful when everyone wants their stuff yesterday.......

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I do mostly contract work, but I am always open to walk in jobs. Even as annoying as they can be, but I love what I do now and would not change it.

My favorite one is, "should be about a 30 minute job, but can you do this and this and this, and maybe this too?" Then they complain it cost so much. My shop rate is $45/hr plus material. I don't charge for the stupid stuff that a lot of other shops charge for, its included in the hourly rate like it should be.

I hope I can contribute and learn from this site, and meet most of you at shows.

Josh
