Tim, Can't be of much help but maybe this contains something you can use. (??? ) Taken from the BRB, "Franklin Valveless Type AO oil engines for 1926 were of single cylinder design using the 2 cycle system. Four sizes were available of 30, 40, 50 & 75 hp. A 12" bore & stroke was used on the 30 hp. model. This increased in 1" increments up to 15" bore & stroke on the 75 hp. model. A removable cylinder liner was featured. The governor, lubricator and injection pump were all operated from a layshaft. Little is known of Franklin either before or after this 1926 model".

I have a Franklin Valveless engine and a reprint of a manual. The picture on the cover of the manual appears to match my engine. My engine is the oilfield model without a counterbalanced crankshaft. The tag on my engine is not the original. The engine is supposed to be a 25 HP and the bore and stroke are definitely 11 1/2 x 12. This is not the sideshaft type engine. It has a belt-driven governor and a galvanized sheet-metal cover over the crankshaft. The manual shows patent dates from 1914 to 1920, with "other patents pending". It also contains this statement: "Since putting this line on the market eight years ago, we have increased our capacity several times to keep pace with demand." This could indicate that these engines were made from about 1908 to at least 1920. I wish I had more information.
