Default The Auction of All Time? The Jim Erdle Collection

It's my pleasure to announce the Jim Erdle Auction of Canandaigua, New York!

The best way I can describe the collection is a real life walk through the Encyclopedia of American Farm Tractors... I've never seen a collection as varied and as early as this one...

Great Kurt! That'll give me a little time to save up and drool through the listings. I'll make that 1 of my big trips next year. Venture up into Yankee-land "n" look around some...

The way everything is packed in there you're gonna NEED that much time........

Is his literature going on the block too?

I can say with confidence this WILL be THE sale of this century.
There are more 1 of and 2 of tractors in Jim's collection than anywhere else on earth.

That is the end of an era to say the very least.

Without a doubt the nicest guy you will ever meet, always made people feel welcome.

Which tractors will Jim Jr be keeping (E Rumely)?

Yep, literature, GREAT early parts, engines, implements - my head is still spinning! We were walking on top of tractors in awe! It's kind of rare for me to see a tractor I've never seen before - happens about once a year maybe? Bet I saw 20 I'd only seen in pictures!

---------- Post added at 07:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:43 PM ----------

Amen - what a GREAT GUY!!! We had so much fun hearing all the stories. A jovial soul with a great attitude toward life! I'm working on the list over the weekend, hopefully get it up early in the week!

Craig here: I could put up quite a list from memory.......

I'll bet that announcement stimulated the sale of lottery tickets!
Is there going to be a nice printed catalog? It would be worth buying the catalog just as a reference book if a guy couldn't afford to run with the big dogs.....

I think a quality catalog would be a bonus to go along with the Lakeside Classic but I think Kurt will agree it will be very difficult because of the number of tractors and the way they are stored. They are literally cramed into sheds and many have not been run in years. To do a first class catalog they would all have to be pulled out into the back field for any meaningful pictures. That said I hope Kurt and his crew go for the gold and get it done. They do have many months before the sale and I'm sure some of the Stakers who live near by would get involved and help if Kurt asks for it. Best get your reservations early because I think Canandiagua, NY is going to be a full town the middle of next September. Ed B

I am glad i was there before the sale! Kind a sad he is having a sale because that collection will be gone then , but the positive thing is the sale, kinda strange
When we asked hm which Tractor he would keep he said the E Rumley, i also heard that the big Mogul heads south to milder Tempratures

Shame the sale crosses my Holiday planing with the Family but i have to be at that sale

Absolutely agree with George! He and I were at Jims in October and it was like Fairyland - every shed crammed full of the mosy amazing stuff we ever saw. Later Jim took us down to the showground he has donated to the local tractor club and showed us what has been done there - I'd love to be at that show one year! We took Jim to the Akropolis restaurant in Canandaigua afterwards and had a great meal with him - he is a fantastic guy and very entertaining. We gave him one of George's special girly/tractor calendars (THAT won't be in the sale) and he spent a lot of time studying it. George missed a lot of the tractor talk that evening, as he was somewhat distracted by the (admittedly) sensationally attractive waitress, who was not impressed by the shape of the (German) models on George's calendar and (as a "real Italian/American woman") volunteered to model for the 2013 calendar if George would pay her ticket to Germany (and back!!). It was memorable visiting with Jim and seems terribly sad that his unique and wonderful collection will be dispersed - sic transit gloria mundi

One of the nicest men I have ever met. He fed me a lot of donuts out of one of his vending machines one day and spent hours showing me his collection. We helped him get the roller positioned for loading at the Rumely reunion in Waueoun, Ohio for it's trip back to New York. A+++ long term collector.

First i must say im sad to hear about the sale,I met Jim one time at the Steam Era in Milton through Bubbles and his dad,he was funny made me laugh i will never forget him.Now to my crazy idea would i be nuts to say we need to get the entire collection on DVD for the people who havent had the fortune of getting to see this amazing collection.I would gladly buy a copy, since i wasnt able to get to see it,once they are separated the collection will no longer be the way Jim had it and that will truelly be the sad part.I would be interested in going to watch this go down in history.

Firstly should Jim him self read this post: a BIG Hello and seasons greeting to you and you wife Jim from Todd in New Zealand, and thank you again Jim for a fun day spent together.

I think it’s fair to say much like Crosby ND, Canandaigua is a bucket list destination for any serious roving rust hound.

I like many of you have had the pleasure and great fortune of a visit to Jim at Canandaigua and see his collection.

Spending a whole cold December day visiting one on one with Jim back in 2005 was an experience nothing short mind blowing…….

Arriving at 8am Jim came and got me from the main street up town and we went through his collection and of course the Canandaigua show grounds…around 10pm that evening I had to head back to my hotel allowing Jim and his wife to turn in …. Jim's parting words to me that evening stuck in my head for some reason… Jim said “Come again any-time - Drunk or sober” ...,

It seems now my window of opportunity to take Jim up on the offer to return drunk or sober has an expiry...(at least a visit of the collection anyways).

Here is just a few teaser photos to help you fill in the next 9 months until the sale.

Does the matching coffee cup on top of the Mogul go with it, or is that a stand alone item??? ??
