Default Onan 191-0324 to 191-1399 conversion

Hi, in contact with Denso USA and am trying to find a quality non chinese starter that is compatible with the Mits m2t55971 hopefully cheaper. Of course he wants some dimensions and in my searching I did come accross a dimensioned drawing on the mounting for the Mits- but you think I can locate it now......

Thanks, I'm looking for the acad drawing or specifiaction for the bolt holes and nose cone through hole diameter- Denso only has application look up's with no application for Onan. The illustration clearly showed measurements and the one mounting ear that was clocked differently from the 191-0324 180 deg.

Here is a ND version of the Mitsubishi starter that I have not run across until now. It is from an APIMarine.com online catalog. I would bet that it is not made by ND. I know that it does not help with dimensions, but the seller may be able to shed some light on the subject.

After a few hours searching- I gave up.

I would like to confirm orientation and rotation of the starter- ring gear is in the front shroud and my contractor's 5DJB-3F manual calls for a 12V 191-0324. I just found a deal for a 18169 10T reman. I think this is correct but have heard of rotation issues before.
Also will the shutter assembly from an mep002a fit this engine?

Careful-If "the military version" means an MEP-002A, it also mounts on the opposite end of the engine.

That's correct- just learning these machines and trying to learn from others mistakes. I do believe the one I'm looking at is correct with ccw rotation vs the military cw rotation.
I am curious as to why so many differences between civilian and military versions ie starter locations, 24v vs 12v, etc I would have figured the more uniform Onan could have kept production- the better.

Smile Re: 191-0324 to 191-1399 conversion

Onan probably would have loved to produce the military units just like the civilian units, but you ain't lived until you work with the military when they want to purchase something! I think they make changes in the designs just to make changes - not to make the units better.

There are also quite a number of Onan's that were built for the phone company - they're pretty much standard units, but most of them have a few "quirks" in their design that make them specifically valuable for their purchaser. One would have to understand the inner workings of the Phone company to understand why the Phone company would want these modifications, but those modifications usually make sense.

I know the original part number for my JB was 191-1398 and it changed to a 191-1399 it was a MITSUBISHI M2T55971. Let me know if they look the same as I would order one also. What is your application?

Due to where I live (northern Canada)- I likely won't see these for a month. If you look through the above post on part numbers- this is a Lester part number equivalent with a Onan sticker.
I started just looking for a spare starter but the price of direct drive was $500, and I steer clear from chinese. I also managed to snag the proper mounting plate for $50- although I understand I can drill and tap the old plate to spec. Anybody retrofitted the military shutter asembly unit the civ 5DJB unit- I'm interested in retaining heat but also know whatever is electric on it is 24v.

I think if it's an oe Onan part- they'll all be Mits.

Its early,
What exactly do you need? Does your set have a Prestolite, ? 12v ?
And if so are you looking for a Prestolite, or do you want a Mitsubishi???

That is what I get for going without sleep. I misinterpreted 4 available and 4 sold to mean all available units had been sold.

GHanners
To update your list for the Onan 191-1398 or 1399 Mitsubishi gear reduction type starter add these part numbers to your list.

Delco Remy DRS0203
EDR 910203
FARCOM 105786
Mitsubishi M2T53481
Mitsubishi M2T55971
Bauer Parts S511296

Application JB 7.5 and as Wayne is looking for one for his RDJC I would say that applies also.
