Default New to the forum.

HI folks-
My name is Lester and I have been a fan of small engines for a long time, though I've only recently begun to collect and work on them. I was compelled to join this forum after my last acquisition, and subsequent Google searches led me here.

I recently found a Jacobsen Lawn queen 21 in a dumpster, and no way could I leave it there. So with help from a friend (Man that thing is heavy, and awkward.) We wrestled it out and loaded it in his car, to take it home.

It appears to be almost complete, (One of the wooden rollers in back is missing.) and in surprisingly good shape. I was not surprised when I made up a gasoline/oil mix as directed by the fine knowledgeable folks on this site, (Thank you very much.) and on the third pull it fired-up and ran smooth.

Now that I have it, I'm not sure what to do with it. I've thought about using the engine and clutch to power a large tricycle I have, but it seems a shame to disassemble what appears to be so fine an example of small engine history. By the serial number it's from 1963.

None of the pictures of other Lawn Queens that I've seen appear to have all the small parts that this one has, including air filter and belt shroud.

Any Ideas?

Hmmmmm. A couple of the pics refuse to upload. Oh well.

Even in today's throw-away society, I can't imagine the thought process it takes to throw out something of that vintage in That Good of Condition. Especially with all of the different programs on TV like American Pickers and Market Warriors and Antiques Roadshow trying to educate people about the values of older collectibles.

Glad to see you rescued it, and WELCOME ABOARD SmokStak.

Oh, and I forgot to add.... as tempting as it may be to pull the engine and put on your trike, there are quite a few collectors that specialize in antique lawnmowers like that, so I for one hope you leave it intact.

Welcome Lester,

About 25 years ago I was the idiot who threw away a reel-type mower. Along with a 348 or 409 chevy engine in some junk iron I was hauling off for a friend. I really didn't know what it was at the time.
