Default need info for briggs NR6

I almost have this engine finished but I need info on the governor setup before I can finish it. This engine was missing the carb and the air vane governor was broken when I got it. Will the governor from another model of briggs work on this engine? Also is there a way to get the correct throttle linkage for this engine?

Its a 1944 NR6 if that helps.

There should be a spring that goes from the governor to the throttle, your engine was built in feburary of 1944.

Very nice NR6. Here are a few pics of the carburetor linkage, showing the placement of the springs. There is also a pic of the link the goes from the air vane governor to the throttle link on the carb. The air vane gov off any model N will work for you with the exception of the NS, as it had a suction carb.

Matt

It wouldn't let me post a pic of the link, as I had already used this pic in another thread. I'l try to get you some more pics when I get home from work.

Thanks for the pic's. It looks like I am missing the thumb wheel adjuster and threaded shaft that attaches to the mag plate also. Are the springs hard to find?

The thumb wheel was only used on engines that didn't have a throttle cable going to them, and were set up to always run the same speed. I have about 20 model N's, and less than half have the thum screw setup. The spring part numbers are Briggs #26267, and #26393. They pop up on ebay now, and then, but if you want to find them quickly, give Will Woodard a call. (540-273-7541). He has an ebay store called willswhatnots, but he only list a few items at a time. He has a huge inventory of vintage Briggs parts, and I've bought these springs from him several times. You can call him any time before about 8pm. He's a friendly guy, and he'll have just about anything you need for your old Briggs. Tell him Matt (bowtiebutler) sent you. I still don't have an NR6, but I'll get one some day. I do have 3 NPR6's, and all kinds of N's, NP's, NS's etc. That a great engine you have there.

Matt
