Heck, you don't even have to be a PayPal user to get that one! I've never used, or been signed up with PayPal, and I get the spoofs saying they're going to freeze my account!

Harry~
I feel odd about talking about e-mail scams on the engine board as I don't really like seeing them here my self. But I do want to alert fellow engine collectors and eBay users alike of a virus/spyware my computer picked up on this morning. You receive an e-mail that looks exactly like a question from an eBay member and the body of the message looks authentic also. In the body of the message you will see an authentic looking link to the item in question. By clicking on the link, what you have done is introduced a spyware program on your computer that will harvest passwords typed in. Now for the good news. You can not fall victim to this a couple of ways. First, the item in question is nothing I had delt with or am selling on eBay and the auction had ended over a year ago. So my word of caution is that if you get a question from an ebay member or an RE: to a question, make sure it is a legitimate reply to a question you have actually asked about an item or a legit question to an item that you are selling. Do not click on the link out of curiosity, which the hacker is counting on you doing! ~Keith in Delaware, oHIo |

Thanks Harry for this Forum As to EBay scam - I also received a notice that seemed to be from EBay, notice stated: Question from EBay seller RE: Item # 123456789 (not real #) with a supposed link to whatever. I did not open the link, because I did not recognize the item #. Instead, I coppied the item # and went to my EBay and tried to locate the item # to see what it was. The item # came up invalid #. EBay now has a function that will alert them to spoofs like this one, where someone is trying to get your information. They will investigate and prosecute (or so they say). If there is any question as to the validity of an EBay contact, DON'T open it. Notify EBay, and your service as to the possible scam.
