Default ebay shipping error???

i have my 1 1/2 hp jacobson on ebay, i put it on for ten days, so everyone has time to see it,,, after it was on 4 days,, ive been geting emails asking me if i will ship this engine for .75 cents... i am thinking that these guys are jokers,,, they tell me my shipping description says that the shipping is .75 cents,, i looked at the ad, and i could not find this.... well i finaly found it after 5 times of looking.... i sold an item 4 mos ago and the shippng was .75. (it cost me $1.25), but i still honored the 75 cent deal...well now i am not going to ship an engine to califonia for .75.... it also says in the description that buyer pays all shippng cost, and i wrote that i will ship, but it is costly.... i am trying to be fair, should i end the auction,, or should i argue with a buyer on this,(i had no problems with a bidder yet),, or should i ship it any where in the usa for .75 cents,,,,also,,, in the ad,, i wrote that any errors to description, this auction will end..( sometimes someone might fnd something broken that i missed, so it would only be fair to end the auction.,,,i just dont know how i missed that.... this is the jacobson hit and miss gas engine, to bad i cannot revise that,,,engine nut,

All you need to do is add a comment to the auction that states that there is a mistake in the listed shipping amount. You cannot revise the listing itself once someone has placed a bid, but you can add comments any time during the course of the auction.

I say you stick with the $.75 shipping costs. You win some you loose some Maybe the buyers will take the low shipping costs into account and bid higher. It would just be too easy to end the auction when something is selling a little low

Just add to your description like Ironman said. I know the high bidder, gasenginetom, is a real stickler for things like that and will probably demand that you ship for $0.75. But don't let him intimidate you. I have overcome the tyranny of eBay buyers like gasenginetom & jon-rozevink many times. And for those of you who can't see the humor in this, I'm just kidding

I would either end the auction or email the bidders and explain the mistake and offer them the option to cancel their bids then go in there and add a comment that buyer pays shipping, etc. Whenever I list on ebay I edit all changes as they seem to still be set up according to my last listing. Check over the listing carefully one last time before hitting the enter button just to make sure its all clear as crystal. I do this and I still have people go way over the item removal deadline, sending personal checks, etc. Some people read and auction and it doesnt sink in. I wouldnt ship that for .75 because it will be in the hundreds to do so. John.

I would write letters of apology to the bidders, cancel there bids and end the auction, then relist. Everyone is treated fairly that way.

Don't end the auction, I'm high bidder and I know that $ .75 had to be an error and was planning on picking up the engine at a show anyway. Let it ride.

Actually if he emailed all the bidders and explained the situation and gave them the option to bow out, isnt that treating everyone fair? Ending the auction early would be a last resort. John.

To keep from getting hammered here on this one I would cancel the auction and start over. If the high bidder really wants it he will be back.

Your ad says shipping and handling $.75 and under that it says buyer pays shipping cost. So ad the $.75 for handling fee to the shipping cost that the buyer agreed to pay when he reads and bids on your auction.

All he needs to do is add a comment to the auction concerning the shipping.

Since the shipping cost could almost equal (or surpass) the selling price, I'd cancel the auction with an apology and immediately re-list.

That way, snipers wouldn't have an excuse to demand shipping for .75 and you wouldn't get a bunch of bad feedbacks.

Take care - Elden

In the hundreds it right. Bought a 2 hp headless Witte with home made cart off eBay and cost me $350 to have it shipped to NJ from AZ. Almost as much as I paid for the engine. Fortunately, I expected as much. Such is life when dealing with the fever

Not for anything but even if someone does snipe bid at the last minute or even bids early, what does that have to do with reading the listing? I dont bid blindly, its pretty stupid. Its very clear that ANY bidder on ANY auction should read it in its entirety. Just because you snipe at the last minute has nothing to do with reading the entire listing page top to bottom to avoid any blunders after the auction is over. Like I mentioned in an earlier post I have had people bid and win my auctions CLEARLY stating that local pick ups would need CASH only and then watch as they whip out a check book when they come over to get it. Im not sure of you other sellers but I stick to my guns and make them go to an ATM or bank to get cash. Again the bottom line, take the time and read the auction! I have a truck on ebay right now and found out a bidder is on the west coast even though I specificly said NO SHIPPING. I emailed him and he said he was going to have a car hauler come for it if he won it. There is a time frame when it needs to be removed after the auctions end(clearly stated!),he didnt ask me first before he bid if that was ok because it will take much more time to get his bank check ( even though I specified cash) and wait for his hauler to be on this side of the country picking up cars, pretty much 2-3 weeks extra time. Again read read read! Maybe you might find the seller found some extra parts he's throwing in for free, found a crack somewhere and is being honest. It doesnt take a whole lot of time to read the complete auction and agree with the sellers terms, etc. And keep checking back to see if its been updated before it goes off. I have done this from day one and havent had a problem with anything I have bid on. I even email the seller and ask a thing or two.If you dont have the time to read, agree, and accept the sellers terms then you dont have the time for ebay.Period.And if the seller makes a mistake in his listing and is honest enough to email you before its ends giving you the option to retract a bid,you have a right to do so,or keep your bid knowing full well the changes. This is so cut and dry. John.

if you read the description at the end. it does say any errors in the description this auction will end. it does say the buyer pays all shipping cost... sounds like it means all shipping cost plus 75 cents,, really does any one think that a seller would ship some thing like this for 75 cents,.some are engine nuts, and some are plain nuts,,,,engine nut

Looks like the engine has 2 days left. I would post an correction to the Auction stating that there was an error in the shipping cost field. Once there are less than 24 hours left, you are unable to modify the auction. Better to change it now than to fight after the fact. Make sure that you refer to the location of the error and what it should say.
