Josh, There is a garden tractor forum on the Yesterday's Tractors website. It's the only one I know of. Here's a pic of my Vaughan Flex Tred.

A guy in our club has a Flex-Tread in good shape, which he intends to sell. Do you want to get in touch? We are in Connecticut.

Regards,

Al

These are air cooled. I had the model WS which had a steering clutch for each side. The later WS had a seat on it. I have a photo copy of some sort of manual if anyone is interested, I could scan and post it or email it.

I think there is a crawler garden tractor group on Yahoo, I don't know how active it is.

Ernie from OR. I just read this thread and am eondering how you made out. I collect and restore the portland made Gardentractprs and Roto-tillers.
The Vaughn that you have is a "WS". The "W" "WS" all carry the 4" track. Most will have helper wheels. If it has the 4" track and is a rider. it is a converson. The true rider are a "WSR" like I have. They carry a 8" track and from outside track to outside track is 28". I have a book on the Vaughns.
My vaughn is a Forestory model that has a blade and was used in the Mt. Hood area for making trails. On the Yhaoo alltracklaying garden tractors is mine posted under Ernies P . You will have to join the club to see my crawlers. I have 5 different ones that were made in Portland.Or. .
They are the VAUGHN FLEXTREAD, PERRIN, WINDOLPH, CHAINTREAD PORTLAND,POETLAND,OR AND THE WINDOLPH CHAINTREAD PTLD,OR.

Send me a note and I'll be glad to help you out...Ernie

Hi Mike
Though its a long time since you have been on line, I have the same machine that you have in the photo up hear and I need help identifying it, you call it Vaughan Flex Tred and I was wondering if you can give me some more details where I can find information about this machine like: the makers? The time that it was made? And when can I get parts?
Thank you very much
Moshe

Moshe,
I sent you an email about the Flex Tred, but am not sure it went through OK. Let me know if you got it.

Are you only interested in bigger ones like the Vaugn or the smaller ones that often had single-cylinder Briggs or Clinton engines? I've got a dozen of the small crawler-track walk-behinds, e.g. the Erwin Pow-R-Tracks and Windolph Chain-Treds.

Hello gentlemen, I was looking for a flex tred or walk behind crawler of some sort. Any info on one for sale that the owner doesn't feel it's gold plated would be appreciated. Thanks

A good friend of mine has one of these and it's in running condition. It's the water-cooled version though. Does anyone have any idea what the original color was? This one has a single bottom plow installed and also has another control for another attachment, though not installed at present.

Photo Re: Walk Behind Crawlers

here is a little info on these flex treads.

In the late 1930's Vaughan developed their flex tread garden tractors. The units were powered by the company's own single cylinder engine. It used a 3-3/4 x 4" bore and stroke. Vaughan still listed their Flextread tractors into the late 1950's.

And here is the link to the yahoo club for small track laying garden tractors.

Also posted is my Mini Dozer called a kitty krawker made by lincoln steel works of lincoln nebraska.
