Default New Guy from Mid-Coast Maine

Hi all,

I'm one of those guys who is interested in almost everything. I've always loved old tractors, but I don't own one. I've always loved old make & break engines, but I don't own one of them either. I sort of collect 'stuff' that comes my way, (way too much stuff, according to my better half) but thus far no tractors or engines have found their way to my house. I hope to learn enough from this site so if one ever does show up, I'll know what to do with it. Maybe I just like reading the trials and tribulations of others..

I spent the Cold War punching holes in the oceans of the world in the US Submarine Service (diesel submarines) and the balance of my civilian life as a Master Electrician, so maybe I can help somebody on the "Arcs and Sparks" section.

Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to this association.

Roger

Thanks Wayne,

Camden is just a bit over an hour further Downeast from us. What I'd really like to find is a tractor I can restore. Well, one I can 'afford' and then restore, I guess I should say!

Greetings from Bowdoin. I've never been to it but there is a Maine Antique Power Association annual show in Skowhegan on June 28. Also on June 14 there is a little engine show at Lee's tire at Cook's Corner in Brunswick. I just joined the MAPA myself for the first time a week ago. Ten bucks to join, you can't beat it. Ben

Ed,

Do you have any experience with Onan Twin's? I'm going to be looking at a lawn tractor in your neighborhood that uses an 18 HP Onan twin. I have always thought they were good engines (I hooked up Onan Gen-sets for years) but have never worked on the engines themselves. Any hints as to what I should look out for?

Thanks,
Roger
