Jerry: Never heard of Rustoleum Hard hat. Only can find Rustoleum Professional in "LIMITED" colors at the depot. I like Professional because it dries quickly and is tougher that regular Rustoleum. I get tired of these stores changing brands and then you have to start looking all over again. Used to use a lot of the Acrylic Enamel, but can't find it around any more. Guess I'll have to try the Pep Boys brand that has been suggested previously.

Paul I have only been able to find the Hard Hat Brand at Industrial Supply Houses like Graingers. I did however send an E Mail to Rustoleum and asked them which of their finishes they would suggest for Gas Engines. At this point they have not responded. When they do I will post the results. You may want to check out their Web Site also WWW.rustoleum.com

Jerry: Thanks for the Rustoleum WEB site. I'll just have to look around and find a place locally that has what I need.

Default Rust-Oleum Response

You probably should be using a two-component product such as a polyurethane. We have a direct-to-metal coating, the 9800 Urethane Mastic. Check out the Industrial side of our site for the Technical Data Sheet.

Straight From The Horses Mouth I also e-mailed rustoleum and thats what they sed..

I USED "HARD HAT" SPRAY PAINT TO PAINT MY ALAMO SAFETY BLUE ALMOST EXACT MATCH TO THE PAINT THAT WAS ON MY ALAMO IN THE HIDDEN SPOTS. ITS BEEN 5 YEARS NOW AND IT IS STILL HOLDING UP VERY WELL. I LIKE TO RUN MY ENGINES AND THEY GET VERY GREASY. I AM ALWAYS CLEANING THEM AND STILL THE PAINT LOOKS GOOD. KEN

Just used Hard Hat for the first time on a grist mill I'm restoring and am quite pleased with it. A friend of mine recommended it and it dries quick and is a good hard finish with high gloss. Home Depot here in Florida carries it.

i've been using the "hard-hat" for about five years for painting machinery (lathes, mills) and engines and haven't had a single problem. you can get a real nice shiney paint job if you sand with some 600 grit, allowing about a week between sanding and re-applying coats. i did this on the shroud of an old model y and it looks like a GM factory paint job!!!! good luck
