Finished painting my 3hp M yesterday. Had the shop to about 70deg. Primed with Variprime the day before. Used Martin Senour acrylic automotive with hardener thinned with cold weather reducer according to directions. The paint seemed to pull away from some sharp edges and peaks of casting rough spots. Does not look like a fisheye problem. Looks fairly good overall so will probably leave it alone, but wonder what happened? Larry

Did the paint actually peel away from the metal? or did it settle into the valleys of the rough cast? If it is peeling, there may have been some oil or other residue on the metal and the paint didn't stick. It has got to be clean-clean-clean! Either way, since you used a hardner,if you will scuff the paint and then wipe it down good with DuPont 3812S you can spray another coat over the first and it will fill in the casting better, you can feather the corners where it peeled and cover them as well. Have Fun!

It didn't peel or fisheye due to oil just thinned out over sharp edges so the primer is visable. You have to look close to see it. I've had cheap paints do this but never noticed it with automotive acrylics. Don't know if it's the paint or my technique. Have had good results with Martin Senour before. Larry

Larry, If you used a real slow thinner, it might have flowed out to slow and just fell off of the high spots on the casting, I have had that happen during real cool weather. Just scuff over it and respray it with a bunch of light coats, let it tack almost dry between coats and it will build better on those high spots. make the last coat a good, wet coat for a good glossy shine. I always get a run somewhere trying to make it shine like a new dime. But it sure is fun and it sure looks good out in the sunshine on showday!!! have fun,
