I have a FM Eclipse pumper engine with enough paint to leave alone but it had no pump. I found a FM pump but it was all rust. I painted it with a spray can that matched pretty near and while it was wet I used a garden duster filled with flour to coat it. Not to pretty just then. After it was dry I blew it off gently and put early american stain on it. I'm really happy with it. Looks old! Anybody else have ideas on ways to age a paint job?

Boy , this is a new one for me . It sounds worth a try . This is very tough to try to duplicate decades old paint . I bet , that if you do not put paint on the high spots ( where paint could be rubbed off during normal wear ) and leave the rusty metal bare with your faux antique paint around it , it would look even more authentic ! Just a thought . Doug .

I have tried a technique that works pretty good. A friend passed it on to me. Get a tube or artist oil in the color that is close to the original engine color. Mix some of the oil paint from the tube with boiled linseed oil to thin it out good. Brush some of it on a part of the engine and than wipe off with a rag. The color on the engine will be much darker than the oil paint and look like an antiqe engine with some original color.
