Default IHC Type "M"

I'm getting ready to paint my early 3hp IHC "M". I have the Dupont paint number but am looking for other options. Does anyone know of other brands of paint that equates out to the green used on this engine? Was a trim color used as well as pin striping? Is there a website dedicated to the "M" engine that may give restoration data? Thanks. Frank

Hi Frank, no one else has jumped in so I guess I will. "M"s have been reported in green, leftover Mogul olive green, red, and McCormick-Deering Farmall tractor smoke gray. On my 1927 smoke gray engine it looks like it was painted with a brush (thick paint, runs, some spots missed). No trim paint or pinstriping that I know of, these were production engines and one of the three most popular in North America at the time, one reason they were popular is that they were relatively cheap (no fancy paint) and relatively well built.

No, I am not going to paint mine with a brush, but I am going to use a good match of rattle-can spray paint I found (Rustoleum Smoke Gray).

I have two M's 3hp & 6hp. I found that ACE Hardware Forrest Green is very close to the original color. The Ace Forrest Green doesn't look like the other brands, its darker and more of a deeper green. Buy a can and try it. You will be suprised.
