Default FM Z color

I have a 3hp Z that was made sometime between 1916 & 1919. It has the oscillating mag. It appears that it has original paint. Did FB paint some of the Z's grey?

I had a barn-fresh FM-Z 3 h.p. that dated in the twenties. It still had a considerable amount of its original paint. It was black. For all I know it may have come from the factory a greenish-tinted black, but when I got it there was no evidence of green. I could scrape down into the paint and all I could see was black.

They were painted many colors. I have seen blue, black, red, green, and gray. They were painted the color other companies wanted, to fit the piece of equipment they were to running.
