I am restoring my first engine! It is a John Deere E 1 ˝. My question(s) are: 1. What color was the magnet on the magneto? 2. What color was the body of the magneto? 3. What color was the strap that holds the magnets? I have seen, green, black, yellow and silver for the magnets. I have seen the body green, unpainted and yellow.
Does someone know for sure? Thanks for your help! |

I can't say for sure but would think that the mags were unpainted, the magnets were probably black and the bad that goes around the magnets was unpainted. Most mag bodies on any engine were not painted except for the Wico EK's that were black or had brass covers. I'm willing to bet that the description above pretty much describes what the John Deere mags looked like when new. Good Luck and have fun.
