NEED BOILER INFO>

Ok guys help me out here.I know very little about steam and have a boiler for sale on barn adds.I don't know the value of these things but not much happening at my price.Am I out of line?You won't hert my feelings that what this boards about.I'm listening. Gary

Simply put, a lot of people are (justifiably) paranoid about buying a boiler without a current inspection. There just too many maybes and possible hidden expenses. Having it inspected, or at least looked over by a boiler shop would probably go a long way to help you sell it

As for price, if there's no one calling, even just tire kickers with questions, then its usually a clue that you may have a problem. OTOH its also possible that we're all chronically cheap (or broke).

Ok, If it should be inspected to sell it any ideal about how much it would be to have it done?

usually $30-100 for an official inspection, pass or fail, depending on the state, and what tests they perform.

A boiler shop may be willing to do a visual evaluation of it as well.

Down side, its money you have to spend that you may or may not get back when you sell...up side you will know exactly what you have, and so will the customer.

Gary; I did forward your add to a guy that is looking for a boiler, what he did is up to him. It costs me 90.00 a piece to get my traction engines inspected in Wisconsin. They must have code relief valves and proper water feed equipment to be certified. Annual inspection is required here.

Gary, look the boiler over to see if you can find a ASME stamp, it's in the shape of a clover leaf. That will tell you what kind of boiler it is, and what it's stats are. To have my boiler which is similar in size ultrasound tested, it cost me $450.00. Inspection fee, $65.00. Hydrostatic test, $150. Plus the other parts such as pop off valve $250, fusable plug $50, blow down valve, etc. As allen said, people are shying away from boilers that do not have papers, as the costs add up way too fast.
