The Tod Engine Foundation just took another step closer to exhibiting our 34" x 68" x 60" cross compound rolling mill engine in Youngstown, Ohio. During last week a contractor came in and removed topsoil and placed about 900 tons of steel slag to create a driveway and base for the engine pad. While costing almost twice what we thought it would, getting this done allows us to proceed with our proposal to bring in the SeeBees (Naval Construction Battalion) to pour our 30' x 60' concrete slab engine pad. Should our proposal be accepted we should have the pad completed by fall and ready to start moving parts next spring.
Also, a local hard chrome plating firm that does plating for industry is interested in our project and may donate hard chroming of the Tod Engine's piston rods. These rods are damaged from twenty years sitting unprotected, and chroming will restore the original finish and prevent this from occuring again. Yet another project we are working on is reprinting a 1920 Tod Engine catalog, showing many of the Tod built engines for steel mill service. Great to hear that progress is moving forward on that monster engine, when the flywheel turns again, it might be enough to lure me east of the Mississippi river! Can only imagine the work a project this size requires, Good Going. John in Nebraska
