Try www.kanter.com, if that doesn't work, try the mil-Veh.org board. if all else fails, do a search on Google for Hercules engine.

Hi Mike, I have a 1946 Diamond T with a Hercules model CBJXE 6 cyl flat head. I was able to get all my parts at my local NAPA dealer, std rings, .010 under rods and .010 under mains. All the gaskets too. The big problem was the main bearings, they had standard in stock but none .010 undersise, although the part number in the book was still good, we had to wait for Federal Mogul to build some.

Thank's Franz, no help at the "kanter" site ... will try the News Group tonite ..

Thank's to you too Alan, however, I work for NAPA Auto Parts and everything for this paticular Hercules Engine (WXC3) is obsolete with NAPA & our parts supliers ....

Thank's to you both for replying .... As best as I can determine, the WXC series Herc's were produced by the original Hercules Motor Co. before the Co. went "under" in the early 30's. Then at the onset of the Second World War the engine design was "revived" with slight updates and produced for military use (mostly on Light Plants/Generators) by the "New" Hercules Motor Co. ... I can probably "piece together" a set of piston rings but desperately need new rod bearings (the originals were severely scorched when the previous owner decided to start the engine with diesel fuel in the crankcase to "clean 'er out", surprisingly the old main bearings and crankshaft are still "good as new") ... the oil pan gasket can probably be re-used with a little help from some silicon sealer but the old Head gasket is beyond salvation ... Any Help from anyone will be greatly appreciated !!

Its been a few years ago but I used to get parts for them from the industreal engine desk at Jasper Engines , Jasper Indiana. You had to talk to the Jasper location, the regional sales offices for their rebuilt auto engines didnt know anything about the industreal stuff.

In previous post about history of Hercules, there is some confusion of two different engine companies. Hercules Buggy Company built engines of the single cylinder open flywheel hit and miss style under the Hercules Engine Company name til the mid 1930's. They were bought out by Servel and switched over to making refrigeration components. Servel did apparently build some engines from spare parts about 1935. It is thought that these engines were all exported. Servel was bought out about 1946 by the former 2000 Washer Company which had changed it's name to Whirlpool and is still in business today making appliances. Their main reason for buying Servel was to get the refrigerator icemaker, which makes half moon cubes and is still the best refrigerator icemaker on the market today, as a number of appliance companys use or copy it. The second Hercules Motor Company built and still builds multicylinder engines for a wide range of applications, as posts in this thread shows. I am not aware of when they started and would be interested in any historical info on them, in particular did any cars use the Hercules engine?

I collect the single cylinder hercules engines made in Evansville,Indiana from 1914-1934. I have a web page dedicated to them. I get a lot of inquiries from people wanting information and parts from the Hercules Motor Company that was located in Canton, Ohio. They built the mult-cylinder industial engines and were in business until 1999. As I have learned of people selling parts for these multi-cylinder engines I have pasted this information at the web site shown below. As mentioned before the assists were purchased by another group and I understand that they are supporting the exhisting engines still in use. Keith

Hello Mike,I haven't been on this board very long,so please excuse any mistakes I am bound to make. You most likely have your Hercules engine parts by now. I had a surplus Lincoln 400 amp welder that was powered with a JXD Hercules. It was a sweet running engine but it sure loved the taste of gas. Water got down the exaust and messed up the valves. I had to pull the head to get the valves out,so I pulled the base and put rings and rod bearings in. The ones I took out had bronse or brass shells with babbit lining. I don't know if I can tell what size they are now,but will check and let you know, if you haven't found anything yet. At least they would probably be better than what you said your's looked like. If I couldn't find any I would sure use these. That has been several years ago and I can't remember what I replaced them with. My crankshaft was real good. If you still need them, let me know.... Hello Mike,I have been off line for 4 days, and wanted to let you know in case you had responded and couldn't find me. I remember having trouble getting rings for the JXD 6 cyl. Hercules. I finally got a set, but 4 pistons with cast iron and two pistons with chrome top rings. Thats what I used and since I was doing a valve job and cleaning up the bore,It seemed right to do the ring job. I could have got by with just cleaning up and reusing everything. The engine was not worn bad at all, what I did turned out realy good. I have always wondered if the bronze bearing shells were original. I think I finally found Federal Mogul bearings. I'd like to know how you made out. Arthur Edwards
