Delco 850 Help!


I have A Delco 850 No. 61762. Does anyone know how to find the year it was built? Thanks TOM Jr. W....

I have A Delco 850 No. 61762. Does anyone know how to find the year it was built? Thanks TOM Jr. W. Pa.

Look on the flywheel or the block, the date should be cast in there somewhere. Dr. Delco informs me that SN's won't lead you to Delco dating.

The information that I have is that the Model 850 was the first generator made by Delco Light and that was in 1916. It was very popular and was sold until 1946 when they quit the business. 1916 was the only year they made a push button starter. From then on it was a lever you pulled up on to start them. As the 850 "evolved" they had many different control panels. The basic generator remained the same, for all practical purposes. They were all painted black unless you sent them back to the factory, when they came back that redish maroon. The above statement is correct as far as my research goes. "DELCO DON"
