I have a Delco 600 that wont go away tried to sell it but could not make the deal work. So now I want to start the thing and have NO idea where to begin. I know I will need 32 volts and the fuel to start it on is gas then it should run on kerosene (I think). The plant is in good shape with good compression so I think it will work. So here are my Questions for now: 1. Can I check for spark with out 32 volts will 12 volts work for this? 2. Where do you get 32 volt batteries or an 8 volt one and how much are they? 3. Will I need to have a load when I am running the plant?
Thanks I know this is all SIMPLE STUFF for most of you but I am LOST!!!!!! |

I doubt if 12 volts will be enough to make the coil work. I use 3 12 volt batteries connected in series to get 36 volts on my 8C3. The generator output is between 36 & 40 volts so it works for demostration purposes for short periods of time. Yes, you will need to connect batteries before you start the engine. Any battery charging generator must have batteries connected to control the output voltage and, in this case, the engine speed

Sometimes if your batteries are to well charged, the plant will shut down. You can solve this by putting some kind of load on the line connections.

Thank you for the help. Wow $80 for a battery. Just a thought is there any one in the Harrisburg PA area thank can help me get this thing going? Sure could use some hands on help and I do not know what I would do with an 8 volt battery if the plant won't run. Still would like to know what the right fuel is for this. Gas, Kerosene or both. Not totally lost but still not going in the right direction.

Hi Wes: Two 12 volts will turn it over to test for spark. you can run it on three 12's. If you can find used ones that will hold some charge they will do. Start with Gas in the tank. Later you can switch to keryo. and prime to start. Delco Electrical subjects( From Hit MISS) Has wirring hook up for batterys IF you need more help E mail and i'll try to help Tom W. Pa.

Wes, I'm about 90 miles up the road from the 81/83 split, not far from the 80/81 split. If you feel like lugging the old thing up here, we can throw my battery set on it and see what happens. At the very worst you'll get to see "Generator Heaven".

All of my Delcos run better on gasoline than on kerosene. You just have to adjust the mixture different from one to the other. Kerosene makes a rather bad smell when it burns. I prefer gas. I think I would take Gus' offer and let him help you out of your problems. I would be glad to help, but Illinois is a bit of a stretch.
