Default STUCK PISTON

I HAVE AN "8C3" DELCO PLANT WITH A STUCK PISTON. I HAVE REMOVED THE JUG, I MADE A PLATE TO FIT THE CON ROD ATTACHED A PIECE OF READY ROD. FITTED WITH A PEICE OF PIPE AND A PLATE AND A NUT TO FORM A PULLER. HAVE SPRAYED ( WD-40, ETC ), AND POURED (ATF, MARVEL MYSTIC,DIESEL, BRAKE FLIUD), AND APPLIED TENSION FOR THREE YEARS. I SET IT BY THE WOOD STOVE IN THE SHOP EVERY WINTER. ANY ADVISE ??? THIS IS A ONE PIECE JUG,ie CYLINDER AND HEAD, PLUS IT HAS COPPER COOLING FINS SOLDERED TO THE CAST IRON CYLINDER. ANY SAGE ADVISE WOULD BE CONSIDERED.

You might try acetic acid. If not available, try vinager which contains acetic acid. The acid might disolve the rust thats holding the piston to the cylinder. Clean of the oil products first.

I know one fellor who makes an adapter for his garden hose and hookes it up to the faucet and walks off and leaves it. He checks it every now and then to see if it is moving. He says if water made it stick, water should loosen it up. I haven't tried it but he says it works. I have re-seated, faced the valves and replaced the head, which you will need to do any way. I then make an adapter out of an old spark plug, or a heavy plate for ignitor engines, and put a grease fitting in the adapters. Make sure every thing has new gaskets etc to make a tight seal. I pour the cylinder full of WD 40 and proceed to pump grease in untill the piston moves. I haven't had one to fail yet. I think the preasure expandes the cylinder a very small amount and allows the WD 40 to go past the piston and the cylinder wall. Make sure you use all standard safty precautions such as safty glasses etc.

Paul,

Slight variation of the previous response is to just put a grease gun adapter into your spark plug hole and start pumping. Obviously you need to make sure it doesn't leak by the valves. You can build a tremendous amount of pressure this way. Have heard of good success with this method. One fellow did it with an oil field engine and ended up putting 42 tubes of grease into the cylinder!

Good luck - Norm
