Is the head removable on the752 to clean the carbon. Is there any thing I should know before removing the commutator as it is very oily in there. Also is there any one in the New York area (syracuse) that might be able to help me with the wiring on this light plant. Thanks Joe.

The Model 752 does not have a removable head. It has a blind cylinder, and to remove it you must remove all the shroud and unbolt the cylinder from the crank case. The valve seats are so small and so close to the cylinder wall that I had to make a special valve re-seating tool to get the job done.
The commutator is an integral part of the armature and it has a tapered hole to fit the taper on the crank shaft. I had to make a special puller to get the armature off the crank shaft. Unless it is very bad I would leave it in place and clean it there. NAPA auto parts stores sell a electric motor and brake clean in a spray can. I use that to clean the armature and commutators. Just spray it liberally around and blow it off with compressed air. I live in Illinois and can't "drop" by to help. If your's has the automatic control panel, it is pretty tricky to make work. There is a reverse current relay that is usually bad. I finally just rewound the coils on two of my generators, before they would work. I hope this is of some help to you and any other person who is "into Delcos". "DELCO DON" |
