I would like to know the years of manufacture for a Delco 850 generator engine with a serial of 47502 and one with a serial of 78435. I have one Delco with a serial number of 112727 that was manufactured in January of 1921. Thanks, Harry, for providing this site.

Delco made the Model 850 every year they were in business. They produced some where around 70 different models of generators from 1916-1946. Some of them had a date cast on the front of the fly wheel. If you can't find a cast date any where on the unit you will just have to guess when it was made. The control panels and fuel tanks were changed some through the years on the Model 850.

Thanks, Don. The Delco with the serial 78435 has a cast date of 3- something-19 on the flywheel, so I guess that one was made in 1919.

From your picture, yours is for sure a Model 850 Delco, but I can't tell what year it was made just by the picture. Maybe some day I can get "close" to the date of manufacture with a serial number.
I have gathered a lot of information, but haven't found, or made the time to sort it all out. I don't worry too much about what year it was made, especially it they run OK. "DELCO DON" |

I have a Delco Model 850 serial # 204423 that I know was bought and installed in 1925. It remained at the original location until 1967 when my father bought it at the estate auction. At the time he bought it there were people still living that knew the exact year that it was bought and installed.

Thanks Bruce for the verified date on the Delco Model 850 and the serial number. I have properly recorded that for my research. If any one else can verify the serial number date, that would sure help to re-establish serial number dating.

I have never responded to a question before so I don't know if this will work or not. I have the complete list of serial numbers and corresponding years they were made, but do not know how to put them on my web site so you can receive them, as I have just connected to the internet will try to get info to post them.
