Default Some Delco advice for a newbie sparkie!

I'm still a generator virgin, and I have been offered two Delco light plants. One seems fairly complete with seemingly only a couple wires disconnected from the back of the contol panel. The other has lots of cut off wires, and the engine is stuck. I can pick up both of these for $100 and would like some advice of what I should look for to know if these are worth it, particular things I should look for (don't know the first thing about Delco's). All advice apreciated!!

If you haven't studyed basic electricity and some basic eletronics and have great patients it might be best you leave them where they are.

If the electrical part doesn't work they just won't run, or run right.

It would make a lot of difference in what model they are. Delco Light made 70 - 80 different models, some very complex and some not so complex.

I hope this helps.

Hi Norm: I bought one (850) at Portland, I asked everyone there that had one about it, Got a couple books from hit & miss which had wiring hook up for batterys in it. The condenser was bad on the spark plug coil, other than that it runs. Haven fun Good luck Hope you buy it . If you have Questions everyone here will help. I didn't know about Harry's Sites then. TOM

Norm, I have a 720 Delco which puts out 32v. Also I have the origional 32V electric motor and some of the origional literature. when all this is desplayed it looks really nice. I use it to provide light to out show spot at night. I say go for it they are fun and you can learn a lot while fixing them as well! have fun!Corey.
