Same nice folks who made cranes, shovels and backhoes. Look carefully, it might have been made to power a junk yard magnet.

lima is a very high quality generator. Try it out, it may not need any parts, chances are that it is a brushless generator.

hi franz and bill, thanks for the responses.
1)I dont have it at my house yet so I cant check to see if its for a magnet, but is 5000 watts enough for a junkyard magnet?I think I remember seeing a USMC tag on it's trailer (marines)so possibly it was made for the military. 2)the reason I think its gonna need parts is because the previous owner couldnt get it to make power. He did say that the engine runs good though.Hopefully it just needs cleaned or wiggle some wires or something? 3)I believe the engine is made by monarch diesel. Its a 2 cyl. diesel.Ive also never heard of this company before and can't find any info on the internet about monarch engines,(diesels),Ive seen monarch gas engines made by nelson bros. Again thanks for your help and if anybody knows anything else about LIMA or MONARCH diesel could you share it with the readers and I?...schramm... |

Schramm My ex father-inlaw was president and ceo of that company in the late 1980's, early 90's. They have been in town a long time. they are not related to the locomotive works. Currently they manufacture large gensets primarily used by movie companies at remote locations and oil rig gensets. They now go by the name Marathon Electric MFG. Corp, 200 E Chapman Rd. Lima Ohio, 419-227-7327. I doubt that much old info exists with them as they have moved several times and went thru several owners. Good Luck Kevin Lebanon Ohio

If it is a brushless Lima generator, there might be what appears to be two armatures wound on a comon shaft; the smaller of the two beeing the exciter. On this style of unit, one of the comon problems is that the diodes will burn out. The diodes would be located between the two sets of windings, attached to the shaft with tape and varnished in place.

Thanks to Kevin,Roger, and Bill for the additional info.
1st)to Kevin:I've been unsuccessful in reaching them by telephone so I tried searching for a website and found one for Marathon electric but they were in Wisconsin and it didnt mention that they were connected in any way with LIMA and so I emailed them but haven't received a response back yet. Thanks for the lead and I hope they email me with some info about the genset. 2nd)to Roger o you know if Monarch diesel is still in businees or a place that sells parts for their engines? Also do you any specs on your engine such as h.p.,r.p.m.,and does it start and run good? Also do you know of any other Monarch engines, possibly of bigger or smaller sizes as well?3rd)to Bill:Thanks for the info on what goes wrong with these generators and I will look into it and post what I find as soon as I get it home and can take it apart. Thanks for all the responses so far and if anybody else reading has a Monarch engine or knows of one could you post info about it such as h.p.,r.p.m.,and what year it was built?thanks...schramm... |

I've just found this thread and though it is 2 years old I'm needing some information about a pu-669. It is powered by a 3-cyl. Monark. I had it running years ago, but when I tried it lately, it will run on ether but won't pick up the fuel and go...Can anyone be of help?

The Monark diesel was a rebranded Lister diesel. Same parts. Lister Diesel is alive and well. I suggest you start with the fuel filter and fuel transfer pump. If you don't find the problem there, you may have to work on the injectors or nozzels. The Lister is a simple engine and hard to kill.

Thanks Jeff,
That's the best news I've heard in years! I have fuel all the way to the line going inside to the injectors...I'm taking it that the injectors build up their own pressure when under the injection stroke of the rocker arm.(?) roger |

Next, remove the steel line from the injection pump to the injector. Turn the engine over and see if it is pumping fuel. Make sure the pumps are not in the "shutoff" position. Shutoff lever must be in "run" position. If fuel is pumping, install lines leaving injector nut loose. Turn over engine until fuel leaks at injector nuts. Tighten injector nuts. It should now run.

I have an older model "LIMA" generator that is powered by a Perkins 4 cyl diesel engine that was used by somone's Air Force or by an airline probably during the 60's. It was originaly mounted on a trolley that was towed by a "tug" or tractors that is commonly found at airports (towing baggage carts). It is rated at 45KW and is used now to power some machinery mounted in a 40' semi-trailer. It is an almost worry-free machine that I depend on and use almost daily. My question is, "Can parts still be purchased for it"?
