I've been collecting light plants for ten or so years, and I thought I was up on most of the Fairbanks stuff. I must have missed that one. Could you post a picture or email it to me. A description? Engine make?

It will take a while to get the picture here, but the plant is about 15" tall and 15" long. It is a vertical cylinder 2.75" bore 2.75" stroke. Flat head valve in block. Has intake and exhaust valves. I think it's a gear driven camshaft, I have to take it apart to know for sure. It's fan cooled, with points ignition. The tin cover for the generator end is missing. I don't know what year it would be. Is there a way of telling by the serial number.

Thanks for all help Nathan Janzen

That's a fairly small plant. Is it a modern type engine similar to a Briggs or Wisconsin? It's been my experience the FBM stuff that has FBM engines will date by the FBM SN/date list, but I know that FBM sold a lot of OP (other peoples) stuff with an FBM tag, but the engine SN was usually that of the original manufacturer. If you can ID the engine, you should be able to date it. The 2 3/4 bore and stroke sounds suspiciously like a Wisconsin, but most small Wisconsins I've seen have magneto ignition. I think I'll wait for the picture.
