I have an Onan 705 CW. This is the air cooled flat or boxer twin. I am looking for some old stock parts, specifically a gasket set, valves and seats, gasoline carb, and a spare ignition coil. Any help or suggestions other than from Onan themselves (already contacted$$$$$$$) would be appreciated.

Have you had any luck? I have been told everywhere the unit is obsolete and so are parts.
Mine is running fine as long is you don't run it more than 1 1/2 hours, after which it starts to foul plugs and load up. It starts perfect, never dies, and will run without a hiccup or sputter for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, but then it starts acting up. I am currently trying to decide whether to put more money into it or replace it. My unit has been inside a building all it's life as a back-up generator so it basically looks new. I am not sure how many hours it has on it. Let me know what you find out. I might also be willing to sell mine for a good price if I decide to go with a new unit. I hate to do that since the new ones are not nearly as heavy-duty as these old units. I just cannot find anyone who knows anything about these old dogs. Thanks, Eddy |

Eddy and All,
I have a generator that seems to run well, but I haven't yet loaded it for a long run. I got this generator to use as a back up for my home. My unit is a propane powered one and I wouldn't think that propane would foul plugs as badly as gasoline. I have managed to collect a parts book and a service manual. My parts interest is in putting a spare motor back on line and having spares for the future. I have a propane carb to perhaps trade for a gasoline one if anyone has one. I may be interested in your unit if you decide to dump it. Let me know. Thanks, Elton |

I think the advantage of a propane fueled backup generator is that the fuel (propane) does not become foul with longer storage times. The propane is stored in a pressurized tank and moisture and other contaminants do not get into the fuel.
Unless you were running the generator on a regular basis, having propane for a fuel would be advantagous. It, like natural gas, or butane, burns a lot cleaner and the spark plugs will last a lot longer before crudding up. |

Where did you ever find a book and service manual. I have a unit that runs on propane but doesn't govern correctly. Can you give me any ideas on this? If not I would pay to get a copy of your books>
